Volmoed Staff COVID-19 Funds to Raise 60% Pay
Story
Volmoed Retreat Centre and the staff have been severely impacted by the total lockdown in South Africa, due to the COVID-19 virus. Bookings have had to be cancelled for the foreseeable future, resulting in an end to income to pay the staff for the next months. The staff have been shifted to 60% of their salaries until bookings return, which may not be until the end of 2020. These funds would enable Volmoed to support the staff during the next six months and in future emergencies and crises.
Impact
This project will enable families of staff members to have enough money to survive the effects of Covid-19 in 2020, with food, housing, and medical care. There are 14 families of staff who are affected.
Challenge
Volmoed Retreat Centre has had to cancel all current and future reservations for the foreseeable future due to the South Africa COVID-19 lockdown. They have no income coming in and are stretching everything they have to provide a 60% salary to staff and medical coverage until end of June. A 40% decrease in salary has devastating effects on these low-income staff trying to feed their families. From July, Volmoed will have to raise money to pay all of the 60% salaries.
