Support 125 children at Refugio Rafael in Bolivia
Story
Refugio Rafael, located outside Cochabamba, Bolivia, provides core programs for vulnerable children and families. The transitional housing opportunity for single mothers and their children, currently serves 4 families who previously were homeless or unable to provide the basics for their families. The after school program serves 100 children who need critical educational support to succeed in school. Economic development, health care and social services complement the central programs.
Impact
The program will support 4 women and their families each year to become independent and be able to provide a stable home environment for their children. In addition, 100 children will be able to continue in school as they advance in their studies. All 500 families in the area will benefit from a smoother transition of migrant and vulnerable families to the area, as well as additional skill development and income generation opportunities.
Challenge
Thousands of children and families each year in Bolivia are affected by the challenges of poverty, including disease, domestic instability, income fluctuations, natural disasters and crop ruination, migration and more. These stressors often leave mothers without the means to care for their children and in complete desperation for their livelihood. Many Bolivian and international organizations have been trying to support those children through the construction and operation of orphanages.
