Provide Food for Rescued Animals in Rehabilitation
Story
This project will provide the food needed to feed orphaned and injured animals being nursed back to health at ReWild Rehabilitation Centre in South Africa! ReWild hand rears orphaned wildlife and prepares them for release as well as treats injured, sick and poisoned wildlife so they can be returned to the wild as fit and healthy animals.
Impact
This project aims to expand into a fully functioning on site sustainable food project, that will allow the centre to grow their own fruit and vegetables, as well as farm the mealworms that are used on a daily basis at the clinic. This will not only dramatically reduce costs associated with purchasing and shipping feed, but will also ensure that all species will have access to a sustainable organic food source.
Challenge
ReWild Rehabilitation Centre are the leading experts in bat rehabilitation in South Africa. After a series of unfortunate events, they have been forced to move premises and start from scratch in re-building their centre. This has taken a huge financial toll on the team, but they have continued to provide the best possible care to their clinic patients and residents. This project aims to alleviate the financial pressure from the team, in sourcing a sustainable flow of income for nutritious food.
