Japan Disaster: Relief & Recovery
Story
Peace Winds continues to assist victims of disasters. In 2018, earthquakes, typhoons, floods, landslides even heatwaves struck Japan. This year 2019 had seen few disasters enabling Peace Winds to continue to help 2018 victims and communities recover, moving into their homes/schools/day-care centers, and providing medical care. In response to the October 2019 typhoon Hagibis, Peace Winds is providing rescue, relief (food and non-food items), shelter, and medical aid. Please join us.
Impact
Our relief and recovery efforts build upon the resilience of the Japanese people and communities. Aiding individuals and communities in recovery through temporary housing, medicines and sanitation, livelihoods, and programs for children and the elderly are all long-term impacts. Improving morale, inspiring hope as result of met emergencies have long-term impact. We humbly hope we enhance this resilience through Peace Winds response.
Challenge
With the increase and severity of natural disasters such as flooding, typhoons, earthquakes, and landslides, we need to be prepared. Focusing on disaster mitigation and preparedness is critical. In addition, we need to increase the speed and appropriateness of relief. Typhoon Hagibis called upon all Peace Winds staff to respond to the disastrous floods that struck October 11-13. Peace Winds is rescuing victims, housing and feeding those rescued, and managing evacuation centers.
