Solar Lamps for Isalo Community Members
Story
One solar lamp help us reach 5 end-users, save families 10,000 MGA a month (from shifts on spending on fuel, candles, electricity), give children more hours for evening reading, give precious time for family gatherings, improve personal safety, reduce incidence of fires from kerosene lamps tipping over, decrease CO2 emissions with less pollution exposure. We need $3,720 to provide solar lamps to Isalo community members
Impact
Thanks to the continued support and commitment of donors and partners, we will continue to unlock people's potential to rise out of poverty and leverage services and technology for tourism workforce. 300-end users benefited with the project thanks to micro grants, individual donations, and discount from suppliers. We contribute to achieve inclusive tourism for better livelihoods of community members
Challenge
Access to electricity remains low with about 20% of the total population. Only 5% have access to electricity in rural areas. For most Malagasy households, especially in rural areas kerosene and candles for lighting are the most important energy sources
