Help ensure friendly habitat for rare Amur tigers
Story
We will educate 15000 children to co-exist peacefully with the tigers. 550 Amur tigers are left in the wild living side by side with villagers who are involved in poaching. These kinds of "economic activity" formed during many decades of weak legislation, corruption, low income of the local population. Through ecological education children learn the causes of environmental problems, participate in their solution, consciously form lifestyle, sometimes different from the life of their parents. Impact
We believe that raising an environmentally literate generation will ensure the survival of the Amur tiger in the long term. We hope that this project will help us increase people's awareness about tigers. Our education efforts in Primorsky krai are aimed at reducing poaching, habitat destruction and conflict cases in the Amur tiger range.
Challenge
It is known that fostering local community tolerance for endangered carnivores is a core component of many conservation strategies. Nowadays local people still regard Amur tigers as bloodthirsty predators. People who live near tigers, are usually rather poor and considerably dependent on their households and forest recourses. As a rule, they hold negative attitudes towards wild animals and nature-conservative measures that prioritize wilderness and disregard their needs.
