GIVE SUCCOUR & REFUGE TO THE POOR AND HOMELESS
Story
The recent flooding in Nigeria has affected the lives of many people, and the situation is still evolving. Many of these families are living in shelters, which are overcrowded and unsanitary. They need food and water, medical supplies, clothing, and other necessities. They also need someone who cares enough about them. There are thousands of others who are in need of help. We know this is not an easy thing for us as individuals-but it is something we can do with our community support.
Impact
There would be economic growth and job opportunities and hence stronger demand for labour, the main and often the sole asset of the poor. In turn, increasing employment has been crucial in delivering higher growth. Strong growth in the global economy in the next 10 years means that the majority of the world's working-age population is now in employment. Since 2012, SOHF has provided a holistic approach to help the poor and homeless overcome the scars of extreme poverty and excel in life.
Challenge
In recent times, based on the poverty line of $1.90 per day, 46.5% of Nigerians are extremely poor, with the World Poverty Clock naming Nigeria, 'the poverty capital of the world'. According to the World Poverty Clock (2019), extreme poverty in Nigeria is increasing by almost six persons per minute. The reality of the nation is that corruption, unemployment and inequalities have destroyed the nation's economic framework, causing it to be the poverty capital of the world .
