Gaza Emergency Relief Fund
Story
Children are sick and hungry in Gaza. Their faces are haunting, their mothers' and fathers' stories, heartbreaking. Cancer patients are running out of medicines. Schools teach two or even three shifts daily, three children to a desk. Thankfully, the ceasefire is holding but the ongoing land, air, and sea blockade of the Gaza Strip imposed by Israel and Egypt temporarily in 2005-2006 and permanently from 2007 onwards, has devastated the economy. There's a way to help. Let's begin.
Impact
Your support will make a huge difference to a family who grows healthier because you care, reducing their anxiety. This relief can be a lifesaver, especially for children. It will also benefit the caregivers and their families by sustaining their wages. We hope their stories will shine a light on the problems they face and inspire policy change. In our experience, it is by starting small - where it counts - that intractable problems begin to be understood and resolved. Please join us.
Challenge
15 years of blockade on Gaza means that virtually no exports are allowed. There's widespread darkness with power available only half of each day with rolling blackouts. With no exports, few imports, and no means of production, jobs have plummeted resulting in 55% unemployment and >72% unemployment for young men under 30, >90% for young women. Unemployment means few can buy things, causing more layoffs - this is the economic collapse the World Bank warned about. Families need a way to hold on.
