Story
This project helps to send vulnerable children to go back to school after COVID-19 pandemic. In Uganda, all schools were closed in March 2020 as part of total lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. This affected 17 million learners countrywide. Partial easing of the lockdown started by sending candidate classes back to school in October 2020 and the statistics from the ministry of Education indicates that 40% of the learners could not go back to school because parents/ guardians could not afford
Impact
Helping vulnerable children to complete basic education will make them achieve their dreams of getting employment and become responsible citizens in future. It will also help the girl child who has become pregnant as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic to go back to school by taking care of the child through the day care Centre.
Challenge
COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked unprecedented havoc on children, families and communities around the globe, disrupting vital services and putting millions of lives at risk. Since March, attempts to avert the global health crisis have seen nationwide school closures affecting 17 million learners in Uganda. School closures during crises have resulted in girls spending more time with men and boys than they would if they were to be in school, leading greater risks of pregnancy/unable go to school
