Food for 250 Street Dogs and 40 Cats in Romania
Story
On our DsN farm in Giurgiu, Romania we are currently taking care of 251 dogs and 40 cats. Some of them brought to us in person, many of them dropped off in small boxes or even thrown over the fence of our farm. Most of these dogs are undernourished and suffering different deseases. Costs for food are enormous for a small organization like DsN e.V. - especially special food for our ill animals. On average we need 3 tons of food every month to feed all our animals on the farm.
Impact
By providing food, medical care and respect to all animals on our farm in Giurgiu we are able to place dogs and cats in new homes. In additon to this we conduct regular castration projects to minimize the increase in street dogs and cats. Our goal is to reduce the number of suffering animals on the street and in the shelters of Romania by building a shelter where we give those animals the opportunity to have a life they deserve.
Challenge
There are hundreds of thousands stray animals on the streets of Romania. Unfortunately, these animals are getting euthanized by the authorities. DsN rescues them from being euthanized or suffering starvation and abandonment on the street and takes care of them on our farm in Giurgiu, Romania. Every month we pay between EUR 3,000 and EUR 4,000 on bills for dog and cat food including special food for ill animals. In addition, we need special food for orphaned puppies and kittens every month.
