Educate the Future Leaders of Sierra Leone
Story
This project provides resources for students ages 3-30 years old to get their education including vocational training, computer training, and/or attending college. Support also includes books & school supplies, school tuition support, mentoring, uniforms, school meals, school and teaching supplies, updating classrooms, transportation, COVID-19 support, and solar lights. This helps children/young adults complete their education and become self-sufficient leaders in their communities and country.
Impact
The project is an effective long-term investment as it provides quality educational opportunities for children and youths. This is helping them to rise above poverty, become independent and better decision-makers. They are then better capable of making a significant contribution to their families, communities, nation, and the world at large. Education reduces poverty. It brings lasting empowerment and definite change.
Challenge
Of all regions, sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of education exclusion. Over one-fifth of children between the ages of about 6 and 11 are out of school, followed by one-third of youth between the ages of about 12 and 14. According to UIS data, almost 60% of youth between the ages of about 15 and 17 are not in school. -UNESCO, 2021 There is an urgent need to address this by providing empowering and quality education in concert with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
