Cycles to break the cycle in rural India
Story
In rural Karnataka, India underprivileged OSCAR boys & girls face a daily 10km walk to get to the nearest school. Consequently many of them rarely go, missing out on vital education that will help them break out of the cycle of poverty that entraps their communities. With the help of the The OSCAR Foundation, which supports children living in low income communities across India, the money raised will be used to provide bicycles to encourage students & facilitate their journeys.
Impact
The long term impact of a bicycle is profound. The more children from the rural communities that attend school the greater the chance of the individual, their family and wider community changing their lives. One cycle will help break the perpetual cycle of poverty and lack of education....all for 60USD.
Challenge
The problem is poverty and geography. OSCAR children living in rural Karnataka have to walk 10 kms daily to school. OSCAR children want to learn, they are hungry for knowledge and inspired to stay in education but all too often the time it takes to walk to school makes daily life too challenging. Instead their uneducated parents encourage them to take up any poorly paid labour and help contribute to the family income. The cycle of poverty continues.
