Supporting thousands of forest-edge communities, these ecosystems are key in the global fight against climate change.

Our vision is secure populations of wild orangutans thriving in safe forests. Central to this success is our programme to engage forest edge communities in activities which protect the forest. Challenge

Northern Sumatra is a unique landscape, the only place on Earth where orangutans, tigers, elephants and rhinos still live side by side. Local forest-edge communities rely on the same forests for small-scale farming to earn a living, but often their practices erode instead of enrich the land. Infrastructure projects for socio-economic development put pressure on too. With so many competing demands on the rainforest, we must support a sustainable pathway for orangutans.
